Questions about TYPO3 MCP
What is TYPO3 MCP?
MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is an open standard that lets an AI assistant work with other systems. With an MCP server in TYPO3, an assistant such as Claude can read pages, change content and upload files, with the rights you give it.
What does it cost?
AI Foundation, the extension that adds the MCP server to TYPO3, is free and open source, with no licence key. A licence is only needed for the AI Universe extensions that add their own tools, such as AI Assistant or AI Accessibility; every guide says which it needs. For text that AI Foundation writes itself, your own keys are the default; AI Credits are an optional add-on, never required.
Which AI assistants work with it?
Assistants that can connect to a remote MCP server and sign in with OAuth, such as Claude, Microsoft Copilot (through Copilot Studio), Cursor and VS Code. AI Foundation includes setup presets for several of them, and our guides cover Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code and PhpStorm.
Where does my content go?
Your assistant reads the content it needs through MCP and sends it to its own vendor, as in any chat. How far your content travels then differs, depending on the model you choose; with the optional AI Credits, T3Planet is in the data path as well. With your own keys, the default, there is no T3Planet proxy in between, and only a local model keeps generation in-house.
Can I undo a change, or review it first?
There is no undo tool and no dry run. Every guide shows how to check a change in the backend and on the page and how to put it back by hand. AI Foundation can also hold changes to pages and content in a TYPO3 draft workspace for review, while files, file metadata, redirects, scheduler tasks and cache clears act live even there.
Which jobs stay with you for now?
The MCP tools do not set relation fields today, such as the categories, tags and authors of blog posts or the items of an FAQ, and files go up one at a time rather than as a whole folder. Those steps stay with you in the backend.
Does the assistant act on its own?
No. It acts when you ask, with the rights of the TYPO3 user you connect through OAuth. Ask it to list what it changed, then check each change on the page.
Which TYPO3 versions does it support?
AI Foundation runs on TYPO3 v12, v13 and v14, with PHP 8.2 or later.
Where do I start?
With Episode 1: what TYPO3 MCP is and what you can hand over. Then install AI Foundation, connect your assistant with its guide and begin with a question that only reads, such as "Which pages are under Products?".
How often do new episodes come out?
Every Wednesday: two new jobs for your AI assistant, each with a one-minute video, from 7 October 2026 to 5 May 2027, with a pause on 23 and 30 December.
